The beauty of Hanbok is celebrated around the world, and rightly so. Traditional clothing such as these deserves not only to be showcased but to also be appreciated by those with an interest in Korean culture. It offers an opportunity to both learn and enjoy seeing it in exhibition form.

Mikey Pinosa, Co-Founder of The Hanbok Wave UK alongside Hanguk Hapa Aka Becky, is someone who is passionate about sharing his art with the world. Together they beautifully merge tradition with modernity, fusing together the past with the future. This autumn Mikey is organising an Autumnal exhibition titled the Beauty of Hanbok. The event will feature paintings of influential and inspiring people in the Hanbok community along with a fashion show on opening day that highlights both traditional and modern Hanbok styles.

Mikey is no stranger to putting on wonderful art exhibitions, having put on five with his most recent being his own solo exhibition. In October he presented ‘With Love, Korea’ at No Format Gallery. While it marked his fifth exhibition, it was the first time he showcased a collection purely of his own solo work.

For The Beauty Of Hanbok to go ahead there is one final hurdle left to jump over for the vision to become a reality. This is where the community comes in, a crowdfunding campaign has been created to help cover the remaining costs. With your help, the goal is to reach and bring to life a special and meaningful event where everyone can come together to enjoy Korean traditional fashion, art, and great company. Every contribution, no matter the size, will help create a beautiful and welcoming space for all.

There are several donation tiers available, each offering fantastic perks for supporters which can be seen below.

Mikey explains one of his reasons for putting on such a fantastic exhibition is "This is going to be such an amazing experience if I could pull this off because I am not only working on my art but also because I am finding a way to make Hanbok accessible to the British public. I collaborate frequently with Hanbok designers, and this is one way I can give back to a community that has welcomed me so much. Here are some images of paintings that will be featured during the exhibition, along with photos from my previous exhibition. The concept behind the paintings is to show how strongly Korean traditions are held onto even in the midst of fast modernisation.
