[Recap] Episode 2: # Re:Play

Episode 2 continued to showcase the talent, struggles, and triumphs of underrated and rookie groups as they performed in front of a panel of industry professionals. The episode highlighted personal hardships, emotional moments, and ambitious performances as each group aimed to prove themselves and their worth in the competitive world of K-pop.

2nd Performance: WAKER – "Atlantis"

WAKER opened the episode with their refreshing debut track "Atlantis." Vocalist Hyeop impressed Jang Keun Suk with his fluency in Japanese during the introduction.

Kim Taewoo praised the performance for its power but noted room for improvement in the vocals. Dance coach Choi Hyojin pointed out that one member struggled with moves involving knee drops. Kohyeon, realizing it was about him, revealed his diagnoses that the cartilage was almost gone in one knee. Choi Hyojin stated that the difference in his movement affected the performance's cohesion. She advised adjusting choreography to match his limitations.

3rd Performance: XODIAC – "Throw a Dice"

XODIAC, a group with significant popularity in member Zayyan’s home country of Indonesia but lesser recognition in Korea, delivered a performance of "Throw a Dice."

Their main vocal's powerful, stable performance impressed the judges, particularly Rex's unique voice. However, Choi Hyojin expressed disappointment with the choreography, as the group often dwindled to three or four members on stage, making the performance feel less dynamic, (This is more of a choreography issue than a group issue.)

4th Performance: EASTSHINE – "Double Down"

EASTSHINE's performance was preceded by a heartfelt behind-the-scenes moment, where the group's CEO visited their practice room. The members shared personal struggles, from weight loss concerns to homesickness. The CEO revealed in an interview that he is battling colon cancer but remains committed to supporting the group. EASTSHINE expressed their desire to succeed and repay his dedication.

On stage, their performance of "Double Down" was comfortable to watch according to Choi Hyojin, while Kim Taewoo loved the song and choreography, noting that it reminded him of SHINee, a high compliment. However, Shin Yumi found the rhythm hard to follow and mentioned that the group's running around the stage made the performance feel anxious, though she acknowledged their potential given their youth.

5th Performance: BE:MAX – "Down Down"

BE:MAX's performance carried emotional weight, as their leader Taegeon shared the story of a serious car accident in 2019 that resulted in the loss of their manager and injuries to the members. Despite their grief, they returned to work two days later, showcasing their resilience.

The maknae, Sihoo, also impressed with his muscular physique, developed through rehabilitation-turned-fitness routine. Choi Hyojin encouraged the group to be bolder, praising their perseverance, while Shin Yumi noted a lack of confidence, particularly in Doa, urging them to perform with even more confidence and power. Kim Taewoo uplifted Taegeon by reminding him that age is no barrier, sharing that his group member in g.o.d, Park Joon debuted at 30, and that it is only the beginning.

6th Performance: L5ST – "AMAZON"

L5ST’s performance of "AMAZON" marked their first live stage ahead of their official debut. The group, known for their focus on self-production, left the judges wanting more, as they admitted it felt like they were only showing about 60% of their capabilities.

Choi Hyojin advised them that even at 100% aim for 120%. While Kim Taewoo saw potential but emphasized the need to continue organizing and refining their skills.

7th Performance: DXMON – "Burn Up"

The much-anticipated performance of DXMON finally took the stage with "Burn Up." Despite their shy personalities, the members, mostly introverted (MBTI "I"), transformed into powerhouses on stage.

Jang Keun Suk marveled at their drastic shift in energy, while Choi Hyojin praised their technical skill and dynamic stage presence. Kim Taewoo was particularly impressed by TK, complimenting his energy. DXMON's leader Minjae expressed the group’s happiness with the feedback and promised to show an even "crazier" side in the future. Jang Keun Suk's comment summed up the sentiment: "I've heard all my life I am a crazy person, but today I’ve seen crazy people. Even crazier people have been born! "

Conclusion
