Will BTS be Exempted from Serving Time in The Military?

The world stopped when BTS announced their hiatus as a group in late 2021 in order to serve in the Korean military. There has been a popular dispute on whether or not they should be exempt from those duties due to their Kpop career, which adds to the country’s economy and has promoted Korean Culture around the world.

On July 4th, the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, Park Po Gyun, announced during a press conference that this decision should be left to the public. There hasn’t been any formal decisions made yet, but it seems that the Army [BTS’ fandom] will be a deciding factor on BTS joining the real army.

Meanwhile, BTS released their album "Proof" on June 10, and have kicked off their solo activities, such as V attending Paris Fashion Week, premiering "In the Soop" on JTBC and Disney+ on July 22, as well as J-hope's solo album "Jack in the Box" set to release July 15, ahead of his performance at Lollapalooza on July 31.
